Our Journey

Solon Capital Partners and
West Africa Blue

Blue’s relationship to the Sherbro River Estuary is longstanding. In 2011, Blue partners and members of the Solon Capital Partners team - Arthur Rojas and Shaun Ramanat - lived among the communities of the Turtle Islands. They led a months-long, hands-on building of the first school on Yele Island, traveling each day by canoe from nearby Baki Island.

This partnership formed the basis for over a decade of ongoing initiatives in the broader Sherbro River Estuary in education, healthcare, and most recently, environmental conservation, including the protection and planting of mangroves.

Building on this commitment to the region, West Africa Blue was co-founded by Solon Capital Partners to help address climate change, protect biodiversity, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for coastal communities in West Africa.

Solon Capital Partners creates, partners, and invests to deliver financial returns and transformative impact. It is focused on pursuing its twin missions of Climate & Community through a portfolio of innovative businesses now operating across three impact verticals and nine countries in Africa and beyond.

Solon is working to address some of our most pressing social and environmental challenges, including youth unemployment and economic migrancy, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and environmental destruction and biodiversity loss. Its portfolio includes Blue and Rising Academies, one of the fastest growing quality education platforms which provides nearly 300,000 students with low-cost, high-quality education.

Established in Sierra Leone in 2010 , Solon’s team are based in West Africa and have a deep, nuanced understanding of the socio-economic and operating environment of the region.
